What Makes Plastisol a Long-Lasting Coating Solution?

What Makes Plastisol a Long-Lasting Coating Solution?

Have you enjoyed the soft coating on a clamp or tool handle that keeps it from slipping out of your hands? How about holding a more comfortable gas pump handle or knowing you're safely insulated from your electrical wires? You can probably thank helpful, durable plastisol for that.

What Is Plastisol?

Plastisol is a mixture of polymer plastic particles in a liquid, called a plasticizer, which helps make it stretchy, soft, and pliable. In a gel form when heated, it cools to a rubbery, smooth solid. Commonly used in screen printing inks to make them flexible, and in polymer craft clay to make it moldable, plastisol is a perfect solution for dip coating. It can be the exterior coating on tool handles, gloves, car parts, chains, and clamps. When molded in other ways, it can be used for caps, toys, and plastic balls among other things.

Durability of Plastisol

One of the best reasons to use plastisol dip is its durability and longevity.

Chemical & Corrosion Resistance

Plastisol is highly chemical resistant to a wide range of chemicals and compounds.

Electrical Resistance

The dielectric strength of plastisol rates around 400 Volts/mil, making it an excellent insulator for wiring and components.

Impact & Abrasion Resistance

Rubbery and flexible, plastisol can withstand substantial impacts and abrasions without fraying or cracking.

Temperature Tolerance

Plastisol coatings are effective from about -35°F to about 200°F (300°F for high-temp formulas).

In addition, hardening agents, UV light inhibitors, flame retardants, and antimicrobial agents can be added for additional protection.

More Great Reasons to Use Plastisol

Beyond its resilience, plastisol has a lot to recommend it:

Quiet

Soft and rubbery, plastisol can be a noise reducer and dampen vibrations.

Appearance

A plastisol dip coat can provide an attractive, finished look in a variety of colors, textures and finishes.

Comfort & Safety

Even when wet, plastisol coatings can provide a less slippery surface for better grip and improved safety. Colors can also increase safety with enhanced visibility and color coding. Plastisol even possesses some antimicrobial properties.

Versatile

Different dip coating techniques can be used with plastisol to fully or partially coat parts in varying thicknesses, on the interior and exterior.

Cost-Effective

Plastisol dip coating is a relatively simple process producing little waste, so you save in time and materials.

Long-lasting and flexible in so many ways, plastisol can be the helpful, protective, functional touch your product needs. Contact us today to see how our dip coating services can help you.
