It is a thermoplastic liquid polymer that is liquid at room temperature. Plastisol compounds are very versatile and can be used in the manufacturing of various products like:
There were various important developments that came about before the emergence of plastisol products and coatings. One of the most important was polyvinyl chloride, which was first created in Germany around 1910. This substance was first invented due to the need for a rubber substitute in the tire manufacturing industry, but the demands changed as time went on. Plasticized polyvinyl chloride, more commonly known today as PVC, was then produced in the 1920’s, which was used for a couple decades as a shock absorber sealant. World War II then came about, and the need for these types of products increased. It is because of this need that plastisol then replaced natural rubber as a wire insulation material, and covered anything and everything. From the outer shell of military aircrafts to handheld tools like pliers, this material became widely utilized. The use of plastisol continued to grow after the war, and nowadays we use plastisol on a variety of things. This is due to the fact that plastisol is a strong and cost effective liquid polymer solution that works for all types of products.
Since the war, plastisol grew in popularity, and continues to be a product used in an array of different industries. This includes everything from screen print t-shirts to baby spoons to nasal cannulas and endotracheal tubes! Lots of industries have found use for this durable coating, and so does Precisions Dip. We especially love this liquid polymer due to its soft feel and look, its ablility to meet harshness, flexibility and tensile strength standards, and the variety of color choices! It is also not limited to a certain shape or size, which means it is great for projects and tools both big and small.
