What Is Plastic Dip Coating?

Plastic Dip Coating is a process that involves immersing a preheated part into liquid Plastisol to form a plastic coating that can add protection and aesthetics to most metal parts. The procedure can enhance the appearance of the part, provide a soft grip, or protect the part from chemicals and abrasion. The coating is available in many colors and textures, and special purpose additives can be used to provide specific characteristics like fungus resistance, dielectric strength, and flame retardancy.

The Plastic Dip Coating Process

The Plastic Dip Coating process basically involves four main steps:

  1. The part is pretreated (that is, the cleaning and the application of a primer if desired).
  2. It is then preheated to a temperature that determines the thickness of the coating.
  3. It is immersed into the liquid Plastisol for a set time to build the required thickness.
  4. After removal from the Plastisol, it is baked/cured at the required temperature depending on the formula.
  5. The part is then cooled prior to any secondary processes.
  6. Secondary processes can include trimming, die cutting, printing and assembly.

What Is The Importance of The Process In Covering Materials/Equipment?

  • It makes the parts more durable, therefore enhancing performance.
  • It protects the parts/ products from corrosion.
  • The cover acts as an insulator against environmental elements like heat and cold.
  • It evens out parts that have an unusual shape by ensuring that all crevices of the object have been coated.
  • For aesthetic value; it leaves the metal parts more attractive.
